The Orioles have assembled a list of six baseball executives as candidates to succeed Andy MacPhail as the team's next general manager, sources told ESPN The Magazine senior baseball writer Buster Olney.

The candidates include current San Diego Padres vice president of baseball operations Josh Byrnes, who was formerly GM of the Arizona Diamondbacks, and former Houston Astros GM Gerry Hunsicker, who is currently the Tampa Bay Rays' senior vice president of baseball operations, sources told Olney.

Additional candidates include former Toronto Blue Jays GM J.P Ricciardi (presently a special assistant to Mets GM Sandy Alderson), Texas Rangers assistant GM Thad Levine, current Blue Jays assistant GM Tony LaCava and Florida Marlins assistant GM Dan Jennings, sources said.

The club is forming a panel to conduct the interviews and more candidates may be considered, sources said.

MacPhail announced last week he would not return as the Orioles' president of baseball operations for the 2012 season.
